With new energy market gets more and more crowded, many laymen rush into battery industry with capitals, right now it seems that pack manufacturers have scattered all over China. Among them, some extremists have created higher charge/discharge rate battery packs, such as 1C, 2C, 5C as they claim.
The best charge rate advised by battery scientists of an Energy Cell is between 0.5C and 1C (which means its complete charge time is about 1-2 hours). Manufacturers of these cells recommend charging at 0.8C or less to prolong battery life; however, most Power Cells can take a higher charge C-rate with little stress. Charge efficiency is about 99 percent and the cell remains cool during charge.
Some lower-cost consumer chargers may use the simplified method that charges batteries in one hour or less, which will greatly shorten the lifespan of batteries and effect the batteries' stable performance. Why? Basically we can say that faster charge or discharge equals to shorter life, and this is mostly related to the heat build up and corrosion of battery anode. There we can understand why every high energy battery packs will have to be equipped with cooling system and every energy storage system containers will 100% install liquid/air cooling systems.
Discharging the same battery at 0.5C, or 500mA over 2 hours, will likely increase the capacity to above 100 percent. And according to the data collected from Jetspower cloud platform, the cycle life of some of its forklift batteries have reached over 20000 hours.
While, the reasons why Jetspower still holds on 0.5C are as below:
1. To control the quality of whole supply chain, Jetspower custom battery packs mostly adopt its own self-produced battery cell - 110Ah(100% production in house), and 0.5C is the most compatible situation for battery's performance.
2. For some pack manufacturers, to compete in discharge/charge rate performance, they will outsource smaller capacity battery cells from various cell manufactures to assemble the packs, which possibly gives a higher discharge/ charge rate like 1C.
3. According to pratical data monitored and analyzed over a decade, 0.5C will definitely give a longer lifespan and very stable performance for Jetspower forklift batteries.
